Dr Wong Ru Xin is an experienced radiation oncologist, specialising in breast, head and neck, paediatric, brain and skin cancers, as well as sarcoma treatments.
Dr Wong holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and graduated on the Dean’s list. She is currently part of the Singapore Radiological Society (SRS), Southeast Asia Radiation Oncology Group (SEAROG), Paediatric Radiation Oncology Society (PROS), Particle Therapy Cooperative Group Asia Oceania (PTCOG-AO) and is a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists UK (FRCR) and the Royal College of Surgeons UK (MRCS). She is proficient in techniques such as the 3D, Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), and Proton Beam Therapy.
Dr Wong received specialist radiation oncology training at the National Cancer Centre Singapore, where she received several research and clinical grants to implement new technologies. She also received the Ministry of Health Manpower Development Grant to study proton beam therapy in the USA, where she completed specialised training and observorships at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Provision Cares Proton Centre, and Kobe Proton Centre.
Dr Wong is committed to enhancing patient comfort and care, and has implemented several technologies within her practice, including the use of interstitial brachytherapy in paediatric sarcomas and studying low-dose rate re-irradiation for recurrent bony sarcomas. Through collaborations with different departments, she has also started electronic patient-reported outcomes for quality of life.
In addition to her clinical practice, she brings her extensive knowledge and expertise to the oncology nursing curriculum at Nanyang Polytechnic and was an assistant professor at Duke-NUS Medical School.
