Biography
Dr Choo Bok Ai accepts referrals for all cancer types and his subspecialities includes the use of radiation therapy technologies for the treatment of breast, gynaecological, head and neck, lung, prostate, skin and sarcoma cancers.
Dr Choo is a Senior Radiation Oncologist in private practice with 22 years of experience in cancer treatment. He obtained Internal Medicine (MRCP) specialist qualification from the Royal College of Physicians, UK in 2002 and became a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists, UK in 2007, having been trained as a Clinical Oncologist. He is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore and held the post of chairman of the Chapter of Radiation Oncology for four-years at the Academy of Medicine. He was Assistant Professor in Medicine at the National University of Singapore from 2011-2018.
Dr Choo has published over 30 articles in peer reviewed medical journals and written the chapter on clinical research in the Encyclopedia of Radiation Oncology. He was Principal and Co-investigator in 13 clinical and translational trials with grant support from the National Medical Research Singapore, Terry Fox Foundation and National Cancer Institute Singapore during his tenure at National University Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
He is skilled in the use of stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT and SBRT), intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) and brachytherapy. He was also the first doctor to perform the MRI guided brachytherapy for cervical cancer in Singapore. He also holds a joint patent in the discovery of radioresistant gene in cervix cancer.
Dr Choo is the current Vice President and program director at Breast Cancer Foundation Singapore, and is the current cancer rehabilitation committee member in Singapore Cancer Society.
He set up a Dream Maker program to grant terminal wishes to cancer patients, fulfilling their last wishes. In 2018, he received the highest Healthcare Humanity Award from the President of Singapore with an honourable mention for his dedication and work in improving cancer care in Singapore.
Dr Choo has also been featured on local main media press, radio and TV and is conversant in English, Malay, Mandarin, Cantonese and Hakka.
