Biography
Dr Whang Hwee Yong is a specialist in medical oncology, who received her initial training in medical oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. She subsequently underwent further fellowship training at M.D. Anderson, Houston. She was eventually appointed as an internist/Associate Professor.
Dr Whang is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) and a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and also has been a member of the American Association of Cancer Research and American Society of Clinical Oncology since 1977. In 1984, she was elected as a fellow to the Board of American College of Physicians (ACP), and also became a member of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
While a faculty member in the Department of Medicine at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr Whang was involved in research activities as the principal investigator for Phase I/II developmental therapeutics and other research protocols for the treatment of breast cancer, brain tumours and central nervous system metastases. She has over 60 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and has been invited speaker at s international meetings. Throughout her tenure at MD Anderson Cancer Center her abstracts were selected for oral presentations at both ASCO and AACR meetings.
She has special interest in cancer research relating to chemotherapy and clinical pharmacology, breast, central nervous system and hepatic metastases. Dr Whang has a wide-ranging practice and accepts referrals for all cancer types, with special patient care interest in solid tumours, especially breast, gynaecological and liver cancers.
