There are many different types of treatment for leukaemia. Your treatment will depend on you and your cancer.

Treatment of leukaemia will be dependent on your type of leukaemia, current health and medical history as well as your treatment preference.

Acute leukaemia typically requires immediate (within 24 hours) treatment.1

Treatments for leukaemia include:1

  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation therapy (rarely)
  • Watchful waiting
  • Stem cell and bone marrow transplants / Donor lymphocyte infusion
  • Surgery
  • Steroid therapy
  • Tyrosine kinase inhibitory therapy (CML especially)
  • Biological therapy such as the recently developed CAR T-cell therapy
