Adj A/Prof Dr Shridhar Iyer is a highly experienced Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Liver Transplant Surgeon with special clinical interests in the management of complex liver, pancreatic and biliary diseases, as well as living donor liver transplantation. He is a Senior Consultant at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and Mount Alvernia Hospital, Singapore. He also serves as Visiting Consultant at the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore General Hospital, Alexandra Hospital, and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
Dr Iyer holds a Master of Surgery, Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He also completed a Master of Business Administration at the National University of Singapore, complementing his longstanding interests in clinical governance, healthcare quality, and health system design.
Dr Iyer has extensive expertise across the full spectrum of hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery. His practice includes the treatment of primary and metastatic liver cancers, pancreatic and biliary disorders, and liver transplantation. He is proficient in open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgical techniques, and has been involved in several landmark transplant procedures in Singapore, including one of the country's earliest combined liver-kidney transplants and among the earliest altruistic-directed and non-directed living donor liver transplants.
A committed educator and mentor, Dr Iyer served as Programme Director of the NUH's General Surgery Residency Programme from 2010 to 2018, during which he led Singapore's first ACGME-I accredited surgical residency programme outside the United States. He has received multiple teaching and institutional merit awards in recognition of his contributions to surgical education and healthcare improvement.
Prior to entering private practice, Dr Iyer held several of Singapore's most senior leadership appointments in HPB surgery and transplantation. He served as Group Head of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at the National University Health System from 2018 to 2024, Surgical Director of the National Liver Transplant Programme from 2018 to 2024, and Co-Director of the National University Centre for Organ Transplantation from 2023 to 2025. He is currently President of the Society of Transplantation (Singapore), a founding member and past President of the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (Singapore), and Congress President of the 17th IHPBA World Congress to be held in Singapore in 2026. He previously served on the Council of the Asia-Pacific Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association from 2021 to 2023 and was a member of Singapore's Joint Committee on Specialist Training.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Iyer has made significant contributions to research, education, and healthcare leadership. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals and has delivered over 100 invited lectures worldwide. His work has focused on advancing living donor liver transplantation, donor safety, clinical governance, and quality improvement in transplant programmes.
