Biography
Dr Zulfiquer Otty is an experienced medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Townsville. In 1994 he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree at the University of Calicut, India. He became a member of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in 2006 and a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in 2011. Dr Otty worked in India and Dubai before settling in Townsville in 2007, where he was a basic physician trainee at Townsville Hospital and medical oncology advanced trainee at Townsville Cancer Centre. In 2011 he moved to The Canberra Hospital and then to Tweed Hospital, NSW, before joining as medical oncology consultant at Townsville Cancer Centre and Townsville’s Mater Private Hospital.
Dr Otty is actively involved in clinical research in rural oncology and head and neck cancers, as well as in large phase II and phase III clinical trials. He has made presentations in national and international conferences and been published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr Otty is actively involved in teaching medical students at James Cook University, junior medical staff and advanced trainees.
His clinical experience covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies with a special interest in colorectal cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, melanoma and skin cancer.
