Preparing for your surgical procedure

Understanding your surgical procedure can help you prepare for your first visit

Your first visit

During your first appointment, you will meet with your surgical oncologist to discuss your diagnosis and treatment plan. They will address any questions or concerns you may have and continue to care for you throughout your entire treatment.

Before starting treatment

Following your first appointment, one of our experienced care team members will spend time with you to discuss your treatment including how to prepare before the procedure (such as dietary restriction or bowel preparation), what to expect and how to manage possible problems following the procedure (e.g. pain control and recovery after surgery).

Beginning treatment

Your appointment, procedure time and hospital stay, if any, will depend upon the type of procedure you are receiving for your cancer. Throughout your surgical treatment and beyond, your surgical oncologist and care team will monitor your recovery, keep an eye out for any complications, listen to any concerns or fears you may have and connect you with support services if needed.

Our compassionate team are here to support you and your loved ones every step of the way and ensure you are confident in the treatment you are receiving. If you have a question or would like further information at any stage during your treatment at Icon, please don’t hesitate to ask your care team.
