Biography
Dr Emad Abro graduated from the University of Queensland in 2004 and completed his specialist training in haematology at the Princess Alexandra and Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospitals. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. Dr Abro has been involved in the development of clinical trials and has published in the areas of acute leukaemia, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and cancer supportive care. He has previously been the recipient of research funding from the NHMRC, and continues to maintain a strong research interest in his current practice.
Dr Abro has clinical interests in leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, stem cell transplantation, and non-malignant blood disorders including bleeding disorders and venous thromboembolism. His clinical approach is orientated towards patient care and maintaining strong clinical ties with general practitioners. He remains enthusiastic about teaching and was awarded an academic title as an Associate Lecturer with the University of Queensland for his active involvement with medical student training and education. He is a keen sportsman and in his time off work, life revolves around his wife and two children.
Dr Abro consults in the Icon Cancer Centre consult rooms located at Greenslopes Private Hospital, Suite 11 and is also a laboratory haematologist with Sullivan & Nicolaides Pathology.
