Biography
Dr Sunaina Miranda is a clinical haematologist at Icon Cancer Centre Townsville and Icon Cancer Centre Mackay. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2004 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. She completed her general medical residency at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2008. She trained as a clinical and laboratory haematologist in Sydney with rotations through Royal Prince Alfred, Concord, Royal North Shore hospitals and the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.
She has been a Clinical and Research Fellow initially in Thrombosis at the Kolling Institute of Medical Research and thereafter in Transfusion and Haemostasis at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney. Dr Miranda has previously worked as a haematopathologist at Laverty Pathology in Sydney. She has been an invited speaker at national meetings and workshops and has played an active role in medical student teaching and physician training. Dr Miranda is interested in up-to-date, best evidence clinical practice and holds a position on the eviQ Haematology Reference Committee.
Dr Miranda has had a colourful and varied career having worked as an outreach physician in remote Northern Territory Indigenous communities and as an emergency relief and aid doctor with Medecins Sans Frontieres with posts in Yemen and Nigeria. She brings a broad haematological understanding to private practice, including management of malignant blood disorders such as leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and the myeloproliferative and myelodysplastic disorders. Her interests are in thrombosis, haemostasis, bone marrow disorders and obstetric haematology.
