When you are diagnosed with breast cancer, you will also receive further testing to identify the receptor status of the cancer. Breast cancers are classified as hormone receptor positive or negative depending on whether they have proteins that are oestrogen or progesterone receptors. Your sub-type may be HR positive HER2 negative breast cancer, HER2 positive breast cancer or triple negative breast cancer. The treatment you receive as a young woman will also depend on your receptor status.
In the below video, Icon Medical Oncologist Dr Lee Guek Eng discusses these sub-types of breast cancer and how they are treated in young women.
