Dr Foo Chek Siang graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1997 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. As part of his specialist training, Dr Foo undertook a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic techniques for gastrointestinal surgery at the Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery in Bordeaux, France. After being awarded the Health Manpower Development Programme Award by the Ministry of Health in 2008, Dr Foo went on to take part in a one-year fellowship at St George Hospital, Kogarah-Sydney, Australia. During these fellowships he honed his skills in laparoscopic surgery for upper gastrointestinal conditions, including complicated cancer cases.
Dr Foo was a consultant in the Department of General Surgery, Changi General Hospital, and during this time served as the director of the hospital’s endoscopic centre. With a passion for sharing his knowledge of advanced surgical techniques with fellow surgeons and the next generation of doctors, Dr Foo is also actively involved in faculties of local masterclasses, the regional Asia Endosurgery Task Force, the SingHealth General Surgery Residency Program, and delivers clinical lectures at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS.
He is a founding member of the OMSSS (Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society of Singapore), and a reviewer for the Singapore Medical Journal and the World Journal of Surgical Oncology.
Dr Foo accepts referrals for all cancer types, with a special clinical interest in minimally-invasive surgery for cancers of the digestive tract including oesophageal and stomach cancers.
