Dr Darren Phua is an experienced anaesthesiologist, with clinical expertise in the administration of targeted, minimally invasive nerve blocks, radio-frequency therapy, neurolytic blocks and implant management.
Dr Phua completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the National University of Singapore and later received his Master of Medicine in Anaesthesiology, before attaining specialist board accreditation in Singapore. He obtained his fellowship at the University of Toronto following his sub-speciality interest in pain medicine, and subsequently became a fellow of the Interventional Pain Practice (World Institute of Pain, USA) and the Academy of Medicine (Singapore).
Driven by his passion for teaching and research, Dr Phua has published numerous scientific publications and abstracts in local and international peer-reviewed scientific journals. He believes that education is paramount to the continuation of medical innovation, and became a core faculty member with the Singhealth Anaesthesiology Residency Program, and currently still serves as a clinical senior lecturer at the National University of Singapore, School of Medicine. He has been awarded the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence (NUS) in addition to Eastern Healthcare Alliance’s Best Teacher Award. Dr Phua served as chairman of the Medical Board, at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and remains active in teaching, training and imparting clinical skills in his role as a visiting consultant with Changi General Hospital.
