Dr Tan obtained his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 1988 and continued his training as an Ear Nose & Throat Surgeon, attaining his post graduate degrees at the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow in 1993 and London in 1995.
He went on to receive further training in ENT, with a focus in Sinus Surgery at Ninewells Hospital. He was also awarded a two-year Head and Neck Cancer Surgery Training Fellowship by the University of Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas from 1996 to 1998. After joining the National University of Singapore’s Department of ENT (Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery) in 1998, Dr Tan was appointed Associate Professor in 2000 and subsequently the Head of Department in 2002.
Dr Tan is passionate about clinical research and has co-authored 40 publications in internationally-recognised journals, as well as authoring several ENT books such as Cummings Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery 2010 Fifth Edition and Baileys Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
He believes in developing and honing the next generation of doctors and continues to volunteer at NUS, sharing his knowledge and teaching medical students. He has also received a long service award from the Singapore International Foundation for his teaching contribution in Vietnam.
Dr Tan accepts referrals for all cancer types, with a special clinical interest in thyroid cancer and ear, nose and throat cancers.
