Dr Tan is an experienced colorectal surgeon with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal and general surgical conditions. He has a special clinical interest in minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic surgery and advanced endoscopic procedures such as Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD).

Dr Tan graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2007 and earned his Master of Medicine in Surgery from the same institution. In 2016, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. As a recipient of the prestigious Ministry of Health Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) Award, Dr Tan underwent advanced colorectal surgical training at the renowned Saitama International Medical Centre in Japan.

With 15 years of public healthcare experience, Dr Tan served in key roles across several hospitals, including Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He is highly skilled in open and laparoscopic colorectal surgery, with expertise in D3 colorectal resections – a specialised technique that optimises lymph node retrieval during cancer surgery.

Dr Tan is a passionate advocate for colorectal cancer prevention through early detection and lifestyle modification. He previously held the role of Clinical Director for the Colorectal Cancer Screening Programme at KTPH and served on the Singapore Cancer Society’s Colorectal Cancer Awareness Campaign committee. In addition, he was the Surgical Department Lead of the Nutrition Workgroup at KTPH, reflecting his commitment to a holistic approach to patient care.

An esteemed educator, Dr Tan was a core faculty member of the National Healthcare Group General Surgery Residency Programme, consistently recognised as a dedicated mentor to aspiring surgeons. He has also contributed to undergraduate medical education as a Clinical Lecturer at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and as an Adjunct Lecturer at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.

Dr Tan speaks fluent English, Mandarin, Malay, Teochew, Hokkien and Cantonese, and looks forward to caring for patients and their loved ones in their preferred language. Dr Tan believes in providing personalised care tailored to each patient’s unique needs and background.
