Dr Tan Ek Khoon is a specialist surgeon with expertise in managing general surgical conditions and diseases of the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and biliary tract. His subspecialty lies in transplant oncology and advanced cancer surgery, where he employs complex resection and reconstructive techniques to optimise outcomes for his patients.

Dr Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and completed his General Surgery training at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). He holds a Master of Medicine (Surgery) from NUS, a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, USA, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and the Academy of Medicine (Singapore).

With a strong commitment to advancing his expertise, Dr Tan completed a two-year fellowship in abdominal organ transplantation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA, accredited by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS). He is a nationally recognised liver transplant surgeon and Singapore’s only ASTS Transplant Accreditation & Certification Council (TACC)-Certified Abdominal Transplant Surgeon.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Tan demonstrates a strong commitment to research and medical education. He has a keen interest in research areas such as tumour biology, immunology, and novel cancer therapies. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and frequently speaks at local and international conferences. Passionate about medical education, Dr Tan remains actively involved in training future generations of surgeons and contributing to the advancement of surgery and transplantation.

Dr Tan has held key leadership roles, including Chairperson of the National Organ Transplant Unit (Liver Subcommittee) and Director of Research at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Transplant Centre. He also led the Value-Driven Care Initiative for Hepatectomy at SGH, reflecting his dedication to improving surgical outcomes through innovation and evidence-based practices.

Dr Tan integrates minimally invasive surgical techniques, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery, into his practice and strongly advocates for a multidisciplinary approach to care. He is deeply committed to providing personalised, patient-centred care to achieve the best possible outcomes.
