Dr Looi Wen Shen is an experienced radiation oncologist, specialising in proton beam therapy and radiation therapy for urological cancers such as prostate cancer, as well as paediatric, sarcoma, head and neck, and brain cancers.

Dr Looi holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He completed his residency in the radiation oncology department at the National Cancer Centre Singapore. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR Clinical Oncology) and Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS). He is a Visiting Consultant at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKWCH).

In 2021, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute (UFPTI), where he honed his skills in proton therapy for adults and children. After his fellowship, he was accepted as an international member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), which allows him to keep up to date with the latest developments in paediatric oncology. He oversaw the start of a comprehensive paediatric radiation oncology program that integrated allied healthcare to improve patient satisfaction and experience. Additionally, he is the current National Liaison Officer for the IAEA Interregional Technical Cooperation Project INT6065: “Contributing towards Improved Survival in Childhood Cancer Using Radiation Medicine and Nutrition”.

To further his skills, Dr Looi undertook proton therapy training at the Taiwan Medical University Hospital Proton Centre, for regionally endemic diseases such as liver cancer and nasopharyngeal cancer. He is proficient at 3D Conformal Radiotherapy (3DCRT), Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), and Intensity Modulated Proton Therapy (IMPT). In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Looi was a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS medical school and Clinical Teacher at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine where he contributed to the education of the next generation of doctors. Dr Looi has a passion for research in the field of decreasing acute and late side effects of radiation in patients and increasing quality of life. He has published several journals in the International Journals of Radiation Oncology Biology and Physics, Medical Physics, Pediatric Blood and Cancer, and the Archives of Disease in Childhood.
