Dr Dean Koh graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1994 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. He later obtained his fellowship diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1999. His specialist training was completed in Tan Tock Seng Hospital and then the National University Hospital. He was admitted as a fellow to the Academy of Medicine, Singapore there after. After being awarded the Health Manpower Development Programme Award by the Ministry of Health in 2003, Dr Koh proceeded to match in the US Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education residency in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Ferguson Clinic/Michigan State University Programme in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Throughout his training, Dr Koh honed his skills in laparoscopic colon and rectal procedures, functional anorectal work, as well as endoanal and endorectal ultrasonography.
With a passion for sharing his knowledge with fellow surgeons and the next generation of doctors, Dr Koh maintains leadership roles worldwide with organisations including National University Hospital, Society of Colorectal Surgeons of Singapore, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Additionally, he continues to actively mentor fellows across Southeast Asia.
Since 2014, Dr Koh has been a faculty member for the Institut de Recherge contre les Cancers de l’Appareil Digestif, for both the European Institute of TeleSurgery in Strasbourg, France and the ShowChwan Health Care System Asian Institute of TeleSurgery in Taiwan. Additionally, he is a fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and a member of the Society of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Society of Asia and the Singapore Society of Oncology, a published author and an invited reviewer for the numerous medical journals worldwide.
Dr Koh accepts referrals for all cancer types, with a special clinical interest in minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer.
