Dr Tan Chun Hai is an experienced general surgeon, subspecialising in bariatric and metabolic surgery, stomach cancer and general surgeries to treat conditions related to the gastrointestinal tract, appendix, gallbladder and abdomen. In 2003, Dr Tan completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Melbourne in Australia and later received his Master of Medicine in Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 2008. He obtained his fellowship of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2015 and subsequently became a fellow of the Academy of Medicine in General Surgery in 2020.

In 2016, Dr Tan was awarded by the Ministry of Health Singapore to participate in an International Surgical Fellowship programme in metabolic and bariatric surgery at Asia-Pacific Endoscopic Bariatric Surgical Centre in Taiwan. He was also invited to be part of an International Surgical Fellowship programme in minimally invasive surgery in the Gastrointestinal Division at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital in 2017.

Dr Tan is currently the president of the Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society of Singapore (OMSSS). He is also actively involved in research and received several awards for his papers and publications, including the Best Free Paper at the 2016 Asia Pacific Metabolic and Bariatric Surgical Society conference. As an active member of academia, Dr Tan was a senior clinical lecturer at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, a core faculty for NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, and a teaching core faculty in the National Healthcare General Surgery Residency training programme. He has also conducted multiple endoscopic and laparoscopic workshops for local and overseas surgical trainees and surgeons.

Dr Tan accepts referrals for all cancer types, with a special clinical interest in stomach cancer and upper gastrointestinal surgery.
