Adjunct Assistant Professor Tan Wee Boon graduated from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2003 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree. He commenced his surgical training in General Surgery in 2007 and was accredited as a general surgical specialist by Specialist Accreditation Board, Singapore, in 2013 after obtaining a fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He subsequently received the Academic Medicine Development Award and went for his fellowship training in endocrine surgery at University College of London Hospital in London, UK as well as at Yonsei University in Seoul, where he trained in robotic thyroidectomy.

Prior to entering private practice at Mount Elizabeth Orchard, Dr Tan was a Senior Consultant in the Department of General Surgery at National University Hospital (NUH). His key interests include endocrine, soft tissue and hernia surgery. His subspeciality in endocrine surgery allows him to manage conditions related to thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. Dr Tan also has vast experience in hernia surgery with most procedures performed laparoscopically. Another area of interest is surgery for common soft tissue growths such as lipomas and sebaceous cysts, as well as advanced retroperitoneal sarcomas, as he was a member of the Sarcoma Committee at NUH.

Dr Tan has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and regularly attends local and international conferences to stay up to date with the latest medical advances. He is also passionate about medical education. During his time at NUH, he received multiple teaching awards and held many undergraduate education positions. He served as the NUS Chief Convenor in final surgical exam (MBBS) for final year medical students from 2018 to 2022. He continues to serve as a visiting consultant and adjunct assistant professor at NUH, contributing to public healthcare and medical education.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and his canine companion, whom he adopted in 2020.

“I am committed to maintaining high standards of care through continual learning, careful judgement, and respect for every patient I treat.”
