Dr Wong graduated from National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1988. He continued his education at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh where he completed his fellowship before earning his Master of Medicine (Surgery) from the National University of Singapore in the same year. After being awarded the Human Manpower Development Plan Award, Dr Wong became a fellow at the University of Minnesota and later at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio where he specialised in laparoscopic colorectal surgery. In 1999 he completed his fellowship at the Academy of Medicine in Singapore, earning him his exit qualification.

In 2001, he was awarded the Chapter of Surgeons travelling fellowship and visited Omiya Medical Centre’s Jichi Medical School in Japan where he was trained in advanced endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques for colorectal surgery. He has practiced at notable institutions including Toa Payoh Hospital, Singapore General Hospital, Alexandra Hospital, Mount Alvernia Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Changi General Hospital.

He continues to contribute to the colorectal medical community through several channels, including as a mentor and teacher at the National University of Singapore, a published author and as an experienced researcher.

Dr Wong accepts referrals for all cancer types, with a special clinical interest in minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancers.
