Biography
Dr Elizabeth Au is a medical oncologist with a special clinical interest in breast, gynaecological, gastrointestinal and lung cancers.
She was awarded the Public Service Commission scholarship in 1981 while pursuing her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). In 1990, she was awarded the Ministry of Health scholarship for the Master of Medicine examination in Internal Medicine and completed the membership examination for the Royal College of Physicians in London.
Subsequently, Dr Au obtained her fellowship in medical oncology at the Mayo Clinic in America under a Ministry of Health HMDP scholarship. Dr Au was promoted to the position of a Senior Clinical Fellow within four months of her fellowship which is a rare honour for a fellow.
Dr Au’s past appointments include being the first head of Cancer Education and Information at the National Cancer Centre. She was one of the pioneers of the Department of Medical Oncology at the Singapore General Hospital and was actively involved in the early development of the National Cancer Centre. She was the principal investigator of several clinical and laboratory trials which eventually led to the registration of new chemotherapy drugs.
She is currently an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Singapore Society of Oncology, and a fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore. She has presented and published her work in internationally renowned peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, British Journal of Haematology, and Annals of Oncology.
Dr Au is conversant in English, Mandarin, Malay, Cantonese and Teochew.
